I'm beginning to sound like a broken record. So sorry. Sad
We need to take a look at 'Strider'. It appears that most of us have an incorrect semp for this one.
Here is a description of what it should look like.
"Long, tapered oxblood red leaves. Open leaves. Satin. Rosettes become quite large."

@JungleShadows
Kevin maybe you can help us find out way through this one?

We have this one from Erwin Geiger

From Fernwood

Then of course there are all the ones from here in the U.S.

Lynn I have some from SMG and some from you and they look the same - so, do you think you have the correct plant??
It is annoying finding more NOIDs but I think it is better in the long run to be correct!!
Lynn and all of us who are caring about this are doing a good thing for semp collecting!! I tip my hat to you.
Thanks!

Well mine certainly looks nothing like Erwin's, and is rather on the small size too.
Good work Lynn!

The leaves of Strider are fairly long and narrow and a rich wine red. Polly had plants of this from Betty Bronow before it was introduced as a gift. It is a seedling of 'Atropurpureum'. It should never look compact or be small. Howard's plants fit my mental image of this plant.

I'm not sure why this one got mixed up. It is fairly distinctive but others like 'Raspberry Ice' are also a mess and that is also distinctive.

It appears that we have lots of photos to clear out of this database entry.
My 'Strider' came from SMG also Greg. Like Chris said, mine is also a small semp, so I know mine is incorrect. Sad

I believe I got mine from Lynn when I visited during the perennial plant sale last September. The rosettes appear to be on the smaller side, although I have only had this plant since September of last year. Still, that's plenty of time for them to have sized up.

Thumb of 2016-07-11/tcstoehr/ee913f

I guess I too have an impostor. Let's keep after 'em.

Mine looks very much like the July picture Chris posts on her Cubits store.
http://cubits.org/TheSemperviv...

It also bears a striking resemblance to my 'Bronco'.

Yep, Tim you have the incorrect one. Sorry Group hug
I am not sure any of the U.S. nurseries have the correct one?
Although the spring photo on the SMG site mite be correct? It states that it is a medium sized semp.

Edited to say after looking at the SMG photo again, I don't think it is correct either.

SMG's is incorrect - at least the one I recieved from them, but it is possible that the real plant is in his collection, just not what he is sending out. Tim I do think what we all have for Strider is Bronco
Thanks Kevin for your input!
I tip my hat to you.

Just went out and looked at my 'Bronco' and fake 'Strider'. I completely agree, it appears to be the very same semp in all aspects.

I tip my hat to you.

I'm glad there are at least a few of us still alive from the "good ol' days" that can say "No that's not it". 'Silverine' is another that is a mess and that one is also distinctive.
