For years I've thought this was Abronia villosa, so I put it into the database when I first found the site.
Pink Sand Verbena (Abronia villosa)
It has been brought to my attention that the leaves and flowers aren't right for this species. I've checked a lot of NM wildflower sites and haven't found it. This plant grows wild on our New Mexico property at 6500 ft elevation.
I'd like to get the proper ID for it and change it in the database. Thanks!

Take a look at this species: Rose Vervain (Verbena canadensis)
Or it could be a hybrid: Garden Verbena (Verbena x hybrida)
Besides that generic hybrid entry, there are many cultivars (and other species of G.):

Thank You! I'm on a road trip right now, so I'll check them out better later. I took a quick look and none of them looked exactly right to me.

Looks a lot like Glandularia to me too, maybe Southwestern Mock Vervain (Verbena gooddingii) which I think is native to the SW.

Another link with good photos for comparison: http://swbiodiversity.org/sein...

Lin, this looks like it to me: Southwestern Mock Vervain (Glandularia gooddingii)
I'm no plant ID pro, so I'd like a few others to check it out and agree or disagree.

Hopefully others will be along to confirm or offer suggestion of other varieties but it sure looks like it to me too.

Karen, how tall does your plant grow? I just read at a few sites that SW Mock Vervain only grows to about a foot in height but spreads two to three feet in width. Does that fit the size of your plant?

Yes, that's exactly how it grows. It's never over a foot tall, and each plant gets 2 to 3 ft wide.

Both Southwestern Mock Vervain (Verbena gooddingii) and Showy Verbena (Verbena bipinnatifida) are found in the Southwest; not sure if one is more prevalent than the other.

This is definitely a Glandularia, not Abronia.
