Curious if a lot of gardeners grow plants that have been passed down through the generations?
This is my lemon scented geranium that I got a cutting from my Moms plant, who got a cutting off of her grandmothers. Im 60+, kinda of cool knowing the plant has been around that long, and has been passed down through the generations.

Yes. I have summer snowflake and irises that were passed down from my mom. I also have bridal wreath spirea that i rooted cuttings from my mom's friend. Those shrubs were planted almost 50 years ago.

I have lilacs, rhubarb, and iris from my mother, most likely she got from her mother, and Shasta daisies from my mother in law. I also successfully 'babysat' a climbing rose for my sister-in-law during their relocation which came from her now-deceased mother. It meant a lot to her. Love the history.

Yup. A Sanseveiria and old iris from a grandmother and probably the source for an Aloe that's been growing in the family so long the origins are lost. A Kalanchoe that was a funeral plant of a neighbor more than 30 years ago that she later gave to my mother. A Hoya that came down through the years from my sister-in-law's mother who also grew it for years and years. There may be a couple more that I'm not thinking of right at the minute. I have plants whose life tenancy with me can be counted in decades now, but they aren't pass-alongs yet.

I have some Hosta that came from ones my grandmother had at the summer house then to my parents house and then to mine. Not sure if my grandmother got them from her mother who was a big gardener. I would lie to think so.

I have a Lilac and a Peony that came from my DH's uncle's yard. Not sure how they came to have them. But his Lilac is huge. He is now gone and someone else lives in his home.

Ha ha - I assume you meant you would like to think so, but certainly you could lie to think so as well. I love typos and auto-correct at times.

I bought my grandparent's house (that they built when I was 10) from them so I am lucky enough to have many of their plants, including just a few that were transplanted from the house they bought in the 30's. In addition, I have a few from my great grandparents including an asparagus fern that is well over 70 years old (and older than I am) and a few peonies that are even older. Sadly, each year I lose one or two of these heritage plants to bad weather, bugs or whatever....

I keep adding my own plants but I will be the last one in the family here...my only son married an Aussie girl and is now an Australian citizen (dual.) Sighing!

I have Apple Blossom amaryllis bulbs from my 91 year old Mother in Law in Seattle. She got them from her mother's garden in Pennsylvania when she was first married. I've had them for about 25 years. I can't wait to pass them on to my own daughters. At that same time she also shared with my her orange clivia.

A member here @linneaj up in Maine shared a beautiful NOID cane begonia with me that she was given as a gift by her uncle in 1978 when her son was born. I named it after he uncle.

I love plants that have stories that come with it!

I love it when I get a seed packet in trade with "ancestry" like : "these came from XYZ who got them from ABC who got them from DEF".

Not exactly family heritage, but it feels like a connection.

The iris are popular. I have some too. And stonecrop, peonies,, Van houtte spirea, mockorange, siberian iris, all were in Moms garden at least before 1970 or so, now here. I believe the peonies came from the house she was born in, so came from my grandmother.
Plant it and they will come.
