It looks like you have scotch moss there. This is not an actual moss, but does look quite a bit like it. It generally grows in partial shade and should have some very small white flowers later in the season. Its a nice plant and works great as ground cover.

Do you know if the scotch moss is clearly discernible without magnification? The plants in my photos are shown magnified; I'm not sure by how much, but I do know that you really can't see much more than just green without it.
It is definitely a moss Chelle, you can tell that on the spore capsules in your first picture, hard to say which type as the pictures are very small, ...it could be a Polytrichum sp... http://www.google.be/search?hl...
