In May, I bought a Coral Bells with beautiful golden-brown leaves with maroon undersides. The color lasted about 4-6 weeks, and now the leaves are green, with pale maroon undersides. My local nursery said it was because it wasn't getting enough sun, but when I *did* have it in the sun, it burned. I put it back in the shade quickly. Anyone know of a way to get the color back? I've been giving it morning sun since I talked to the nursery. This seems like a common issue, but I haven't seen anything about recovering the color.

They have their best color during the Spring with many varieties losing color during the heat of Summer. When things cool down in the Fall most will get their color back. Do you know what variety you have? Being in the sun does improve the color on some but even here in zone 6 only a few can deal with full sun.

I don't know exactly what variety it is, but after checking the Western Garden Book, I would say it's either a Purple Palace or a H. sanguinea - the first seems more likely. And it never put out flower stalks. I've included a picture.

My Purple Palace has never got so green. It is more vibrant in the Spring though, like Bob was saying. It is a dark green/purple color now.

You think that could be 'Kassandra'. It will be interesting to see what color the new growth will have.

When I bought it, the tops of the leaves were a golden-orange, and the undersides were maroon. I've moved it from total shade to partial sun now, and the new growth seems to be coming out in those colors.
