In my search on the internet for some hard to find seeds I found Reimer Seeds company. I have never purchased any seeds from them and in fact had never known about them. My question is, does any one here on the Forum have buying experience with them. If so I would appreciate sharing information with me. I hate to buy a bunch of seeds from a supplier and not know the quality of their product. Thanks for the help.

My pleasure Thomas. I tip my hat to you. Good luck to you!

BTW...You might want to check out the green pages here, and see if there are seed companies that other members have reviewed. (positively) 🙂

Hi Thomas, I put "Reimer Seeds" into the search here, and a number of posts came up about them. From what I can see, it's a good place.

Hi Karen,

Well I must be doing something wrong. I did look in the Green Pages under "R" and they were not listed. I also listed Reimer in the "Search Q&A" here and did not find anything. I have a whole page of seeds that I plan to order for 2017 and they showed having about 85% and I had never heard of them before. Guess I will break up the order to 5 different companies that I know and trust. Just trying to make life easier for myself.

Thanks for the help

No one has (positively) reviewed them so that's why they aren't listed in the Greenpages.
You didn't find anything on Reimer because you limited it to the Search Q&A.
When you go to the main Home page, use that search, it covers all forums. Not much came up.

Hi Thomas, I never bought from them.

Here are my favorites, but "coastal PNW" and "Deep East Texas" are about as different as two places can be and still both be Zone 8. Still, Franchi, Johnnies, Botanical Interests and Baker Creek are for everyone.
Baker Creek's catalog (paper and online) is like four-star "garden porn".

Asian edible crop seeds:
Tainong seeds - (call or email and ask for the $2 "sample packets". Generous!) ask "OP or hybrid?"
Kitazawa - (very wide selection and great descriptions that let you compare varieties. Even recopies!)
Rick Corey - (trade or SASE for NGA contributors) http://garden.org/apps/swap/vi...

Fancy-Shmancy
Franchi - "Seeds of Italy" http://www.growitalian.com/ big, foil packets. Incredible Italian heirloom veggies.
Botanical Interests - great selection & info. GREAT info on seed packets! Both flowers and interesting veggies.
Baker Creek Heirlooms - http://www.rareseeds.com/store... (The Bulk Seed category is well-hidden. GREAT rare heirlooms)

Just crops
Territorial (commercial pricing, privately held, wholly owned by Tom and Julie Johns, field trials done in Oregon)
Johnnies http://www.johnnyseeds.com/ (great Grower's Library, videos & tools)
Ed Hume (for short season and cool climate, like coastal PNW) https://www.humeseeds.com/
Victory, Fedco, Hazzards

Thanks @RickCorey you always have good info. This afternoon I looked like a huge mud ball, used my new tractor and tiller to start to prepare my 2017 garden. The sandy loan soil was super dry and I made huge dust clouds which stuck to me like a magnet. Too much hard work, which I love, but need good seeds to start the 2017 season.

The great thing about this Forum, good people with a lot of friendly great help.

Thanks again Rick

I've heard that TT is great, but not yet bought from them.

Early on, I found Heather's Tomato-and-Pepper Swap, and went utterly bug-nuts crazy collecting more tomato seeds than I will ever be able to grow.

>> Kitazawa is one of my favorites.

For most people, I SHOULD probably recommend them more than Tainong. But many things about Tainong give me a big, warm fuzzy feeling.

- They answered the phone in Mandarin and only change to English if necessary.

- They are wholesalers, selling seeds that savvy market growers like, but will sell a scoop for $2 to silly amateurs like me.

- I-Lung, who usually takes my order, especially if I send by email, is REALLY patient with my questions. When one variety is out, or even if it isn't, he'll suggest alternatives and varieties more suited to my climate. I'm super-impressed that he will take time to make recommendations or warn me, when his usual customer probably buys 1,000 times more than I do. And he remembers me from year to year!

- He TELLS me if a batch of seed is older or has not been re-tested recently, and then he always says "Well, I'll give you bigger scoop of that one".

- He knows that hobbyists often prefer non-treated seeds, and "warns" me when I buy the high-priced spread.

- The size of the scoop is different for every batch, but the scoop is BIG for $2 for the OP varieties , and as big as a $4 packet from a retail vendor, when they are pricey hybrid seeds.

- They really are patient and kind to hobbyists. Once I tried to find out what their next-size-larger packet would be. He was very gentle when he said "pounds".

And everything I've bought from them sprouted great. One batch had not been re-tested recently and was getting a LITTLE old by my standards, VERY old by their standards, I guess, so he warned me repeatedly and said he'd replace it with something else if its germination wasn't good. (I couldn't tell the germination rate was ANY different from very fresh seed, but I did sow that outside, a little thicker.)

And they have PAGES of Bok Choy varieties! Baby, big, many sizes in-between, Shanghai, Taiwan, white-stem, green-stem, plus NAPA, Michilhi, Yu Choy Sum, A choy, Asparagus Bean, eggplants, Gai Lan, Bitter Melon (苦瓜) and a partridge in a pear tree.

I was surprised that they didn't have Tatsoi, and finally asked him. I'm not positive that I understood the answer, but it sounded like "WE call that Takuchoy". It felt like trying to order Emu Bitter beer in the eastern half of Australia. Emu Bitter is what they drink in WESTERN Australia, mate! DUHH!

I've also had excellent service and seeds from Totally Tomatoes. And ordered from Fedco the past couple of years and was very pleased with them (and found some seeds that I hadn't been able to locate anywhere else).

Thomas, do you want to share what kind of seeds you're looking for? I always try to consolidate my seed orders to as few companies as I can because the postage can end up costing a fortune otherwise...

Johnny's is definitely another go-to seed company for me, and they have lots of great growing info on their website as well.

I'm glad you started this thread -- I was also wondering about Reimer.

That's an excellent garden list, Thomas!

You might check out Southern Exposure Seeds ( http://www.southernexposure.co... ) if you haven't already done so (although they certainly don't have every variety you have listed there). Hopefully some people that garden in the south will have more suggestions for you!

I do have a couple of suggestions, which I don't think are really zone specific (but, then again, they could be). For a slicing cuke, consider trying Summer Dance (there are a number of companies that offer it); grown on a trellis, it is a fantastic producer of long, slim, thin-skinned slicing cucumbers. And consider trying the old OP Golden Zucchini -- I had a LOT of problems with Gold Rush as far as blossom-end rot, Golden Zucchini always produces reliably for me. (however, please take these recommendations with a grain of salt if southern growers say otherwise Smiling ).

See, that's the good part about winter here... I have several months to search through all of the seed catalogs and websites to find the things I want to grow... you all in the south don't so much have that luxury, being able to plant and grow, plant and grow practically continuously!
