Thank all of you for answering about my Rose of SHaron. Yes we've got alot of deer, mostly Bucks. I look forward to planting at least three of the Rose of Sharons. Of course my husband says No more planting another plant so I'll have to hire someone. We only have rocks in our soil, so its a job. Any way, Thanks to all of you. I look forward to getting to know all of you. Mary

Welcome! This is a very friendly group and I know you'll have a good time here!

I understand about the rocky soil. I actually had pretty good soil where I lived in Austin, but a co-worked lived a little southwest of town and her husband literally had to use a jackhammer to plant even a small tree. They were wise and built a large raised bed for vegetables and a few flowers.

Yep, @SALL20, when we moved into this house off Loop 360, they had to use a jackhammer to set the posts for the backyard fence!

I felt kinda bad, because I was the one who gave them the tree ☺️

I had picked up a Desert Willow seedling in a one gallon pot at a garden club sale in Kingsland. I paid a dollar for it. I kept it in the container for 2 years, while I was looking for a place to plant it in my yard. I finally decided that I just didn't have that perfect spot and asked her if she wanted it. It had grown quite a bit and was probably a couple of feet tall by this time and it was time for it to come out of that one gallon container. After she told me in great detail about their efforts to plant it, I did have a few moments of guilt. Last summer, after we had moved to Houston, she sent me a picture of it in bloom. I don't feel any guilt now!

I need to move my White Rose of Sharon. It always looks nice in the spring then the EE's and Angel's Trumpet choke it out in the summer preventing her from doing her thing. I will find her a good home this fall. Welcome! Welcome!

That desert willow is a beauty. I have seen a few around Fort Worth, would like one but I am running out of yard.
