The rhizome below is the kind of rhizome I'm confused about as an iris newbie (this image is from Misawa77). I recognize there are come increases attached, but beyond that, if you plant it with roots down and the rhizome half out of the soil, the foliage will be laying on the side. If you planted the increases separately and theen planted the rhizome half out of the soil with the foilage facing upward, there would be no roots in the soil. How on earth would this rhizome be planted...foilage up or roots down???

plant it at an angle with the roots in the soil. Don't worry about the older leaves.

Thank you, Greg! I have a couple like that planted that way and I wasn't at all sure that I didn't blow it. I'm glad to see it! But what on earth are you doing outside planting at 4:30 am? It's not even sunrise!!

Not planting at 4:30 AM; just leaving for work. My alarm goes off at 3:51AM and I am out the door anywhere from 4:15 to 4:40 depending on how slow I am.

The "lobster" was planted yesterday morning at about 11AM. Just fulfilling the wish to see it planted. Smiling

Really, really glad you weren't so bitten by the virus that you were planting in the dark!! I appreciate fulfillment of the wish to see it planted. I sure wasn't sure!

If I had a spotlight on the back of my house I would consider planting in the dark this year. It's the only time it isn't 95 degrees or higher. May not like the company of the nocturnal "friends" though.
