I found this growing in a shady area of my backyard beneath Oaks, Palms and Viburnum and I have no clue what it is. It may be a thug that gets composted or it may be something I want to keep so I'd like to know it's name. I pulled it up and potted it until I can get an ID. It's very windy out but hopefully someone will know the name from these pictures. About 14 inches in height, alternate leaves ...

The leaves on my unidentified plant look a lot like Turk's Cap (Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii) which apparently is found in Fla. http://florida.plantatlas.usf....

Mmmm... let me check for awhile.

Hard to tell but I've put my leaf photo side by side with Emma Grace's photo for comparison:

It have seven main vein instead of five on Malvaviscus arboreus on the photo. And i think the secondary vein also much heavier.

I dont know if young plants of malvaviscus have leaf venation like that.

Or maybe it just variation of malvaviscus leaf ?

Seriously doubt that you have the pink version... red is far more likely.
to my understanding pink turks cap is a recent hybrid.

I have 2 Malvaviscus variety on my front yard (big pendulous flower, not drumondii variety). One with variegate leaf and red flower. The other is pink flower. My dream is to get the white one

I have a ton of plants that would not survive being dug in the heat of summer.
You lucked out with Malvaviscus, very tough native bush.

UPDATE: I'm still searching for the identity of this Malva type plant that I dug from a wooded area of the backyard in early July. I've been googling and searching but just can't seem to find a match. I spotted a bud cluster and a tiny bloom this morning, the little Hibiscus like bloom is penny size ... any ideas?

Myriam, you're amazing! I've been watching this thread. I knew what this was but didn't know what it was. LOL! Didn't know what it's NAME was. Lin, I grew up seeing this all my life in south FL. How could I describe those little burr like seeds that catch & stick to fabric & simply adore socks? Dog fur is not exempt either, nor is human hair! Especially long hair. It has been so frustrating not being able to even look for the name of it. We never even called it by a common name so I didn't have that to go by. I'm so glad you ID'd it Myraim!

So I googled using the keywords: Malvaceae Florida, and among all the family members Lin's lovely wildflower came up..

I sure appreciate the help! I googled for Malva and Mallow of Florida and should have searched for the family Malvaceae because one of the first photos was of this plant. My Florida plant books and bird books are still packed away somewhere since we moved and I wonder if I'll find the plant listed in one of my books.

Good to know Myriam. My mind does not seem to be hitting all 8 cylinders lately so I was completely lost. A case of too many irons in the fire.
