Worms are good. Did you hear me? Worms are GOOD for the soil. They help keep the soil aerated and light. Plus worm casings, aka worm poo, has some of the BEST fertilizer that people actually raise worms for poop!
May I ask when you got your houseplant? Because if there were worms in the pot, that means it has been outside for some time. It could be that it is adjusting from being outside then brought indoors to your home and showing temporary stress? Depends on when you got it and how long it has been inside. The schefflera, which you have do not like a lot of water. Let it dry out between watering. Nice shade plant but it likes a little light and not complete darkness.
Also because schefflera tend to root fairly easy. often stores will sell them when they have barely rooted. Could you tell if your plant was fully rooted when you transplanted?
