My most fave petunia is PW Vista Bubblegum Supertunia. It will grow anywhere. Those big barrels have north NE exposure. The window boxes are SE South.

Just this morning, a hummingbird was at the bee balm. It perched on one flower head and rested for about 5 minutes. Every once in a while it would stick it's beak in another flower, while still perched, no wings flapping. I have never seen a humming bird do that. We don't get many butterflies in the city, or humming birds.

Joanne, I really am enjoying your collection. Every time I put a petunia in a pot it dies... I've learned to take the pic right away because I'll be planting something else in that spot in a few days. I keep reading about how they're easy to grow, but I've read the same thing about geraniums, which practically grow wild here, and I kill them too. Don't know how I do it. Grumbling

This afternoon I spent my just sit down time on the porch watching Costa Rican Frittellaries (sp?) and hummers helping themselves to my b'fly bushes - in containers, of course. No camera available, of course. Sighing!
Can't complain too loud about how the ball bounces when I'm the one who dropped it.

Carol, it's good to know that I'm not the only one that has trouble with petunias! Mine will only last a month or two, maybe. I'd like to blame it on the humidity or the heat, but I probably just haven't figured out how to take care of them. And they are so pretty, spilling out of containers like Joanne has! I love 'em, but I have to admire them from afar.

I always transplant into larger baskets and that seems to work well. Check out the Gardening Idea called "Big Balls of Colour". I'm not sure how to paste a direct link. Other info on Petunias is a "sticky" in the Annuals Forum,

Here you go Joanne. http://garden.org/ideas/view/J...

And WOW!!! Your containers are exceptional as usual. How do you handle the summer heat and humidity. Or has your weather been pretty moderate this year?

Ahhhh, so you haven't had all the heat and hi humidity. Lucky you. Sure wish we would get some showers and cooler temps.

@Joanne
I agree they are gorgeous. We have had an unusual summer of weeks with temps in the 90s and no rain. I have a lot of dead and dying pots outside this year and it is so hot and humid I do not care.

I am not going out there. I am sitting inside under the air and thinking of our normal summer to come back maybe next year. We usually are in the 80s and low humidity. This is not the kind of weather I am use to in the summer.
