Is it true that you can spray your toemates and outher vegs with Epson salts if so witch the one for bath or the dringing one.

Magnesium sulfate , kind I think is what you want. I haven't heard of spraying plants with it , but watering or spreading a tablespoon on soil around plant before watering is suppose to help Magnesium hungry plant.

It's the one you'd use in your bath, mooncat. You can buy it very cheap at the grocery store, without perfume in it, too.

For tomatoes, better to dissolve it in a watering can, about a tablespoon per gallon and water each plant with a gallon. They'll drink it right up and love it. I also spray it on my orchids, but they are better at foliar feeding than your tomatoes, which take up the majority of their nutrients through the roots.

Extra magnesium during the height of growing season is good for a lot of plants. It's highly soluble, so when you're watering a lot in the heat of summer, the magnesium gets leached out of the soil fast.

I just wanted to relate how wonderful Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) is for plant culture. About 3 months ago I sprinkled the granules around my small stunted mango tree that is 17 years old and has yet to produce fruit, on my sugar apple tree (Annona squamosa) that does produce fruit but are small, and on my young Longan trees, and watered in generously. It was a miracle! All the trees’ leaves turned a dark green and look very healthy. The sugar apple tree is producing large fruits with no bugs attached and no white flies evident; the mango tree has healthy looking leaves and I’m sure it will finally produce fruit next spring; and the little Longan trees are looking great and growing.

Our soil is composed of limestone which is rich in calcium. And come to find out, high levels of Calcium, as well as Potash, induce deficiency of Magnesium in the soil. In other words, high levels of these block absorption of Magnesium by the roots. Magnesium is an essential building block of the chlorophyll…without it photosynthesis will not occur in plants. And also come to find out, Magnesium can be sprayed on the leaves as a quick fix as it is easily absorbed by the leaves.

Can Epson salts be used on potted plants?

I have small Bursera and Commiphora trees in pots and small to large pots of succulents. I fertilize throughout the growing season, but still water a lot.

Epsom salts can be used on potted plants but you probably don't need to if there is already magnesium in the fertilizer you are using, or dolomitic limestone in the potting mix.

a lot of fertilizers don't have magnesium but it should say on the label
