I am not a newbie to iris but adding very carefully. I would love to hear from you about what has done the best in a garden setting Hurray! I looked at the Dykes winners, but would love to hear more suggestions about your modern TB iris. Thanks!

Thanks Lyn, each of those are beautiful. I am thinking my favorite of the group would be JAZZ BAND. I love it when the beard is a good contrast. The artsy side of me coming thru I guess.

I think the one that surprised me the most was Poster Girl. I planted one rhizome last year and hoped for a bloom stalk this year. These are not great photos but they will give you an idea of its performance in my garden this spring.

This one bloomed for a long period of time and the blooms did not fade. Despite having a lot of substance it held up well when soaked with rain.

What a lot of beauties, Lyn! Hurray!

In fact, I think 'Stan Coates' and 'Smoke and Thunder' need to go on my want list... Whistling
Oh! Turns out 'SaT' is on there already! Hilarious!

I had a good bloom season this year, but the ones that stood out for me were:

TBI 'Guatemala' (Thomas Johnson 2005) with TBI 'Eugenia King' and other friends. (It's 'Guatemala' on the right and the picture was taken in full sun.)

SDB 'Lilli White' (W. Welch 1958) I realise that historics often grow better than modern irises and SDBs are usually good growers here, but I still think that is pretty good for a first year bloom! Thumbs up

Yes, one rhizome, planted in 2015. New bed made especially for new TB irises. It was the most colorful new one I had planted.

Thanks Lilli. Smiling

Another iris that I expected to see bloom and go was SDB Rainbow Rim. I took a lot of photos of it because it just kept making blooms. It is a small clump but over the course of a few weeks it looked like a grand bouquet.

And IB Snow Blink did very well for its second year.

I received a couple of rhizomes from an ATP friend of Fantastic Blue. I have never heard of anyone having a problem growing this one and it is a gorgeous little IB. It did very well.

And who could leave out an iris that grows like a weed. TB Thornbird. Here is a photo that I took this spring of it after thinning it last year to only three rhizomes. Look at the potential blooms on those stalks.

Thornbird grows very well here too. As does all Burseen's in general. They were hybridized to take on Texas heat so they don't mind Carolina heat one bit.

I'd have to list most of my garden Hilarious! But I second Bonnie's Rainbow Ridge. It's a blooming work of art, just keeps sending out bloom for a long time.

One of the more recent ones that is doing well is Gambling Man. I have had to thin it already and it's in it's second year. Good grower and lots of bloom.
