I've had this in a pot for a couple yrs & finally decided on a spot to put it in the ground. It's recovering from me forgetting about it when it didn't rain for 5 weeks while it was still in a pot.

Hate those things.... But, yes, I have one in a pot that rarely receives water... Will take a pic for you...
Aren't these cycads implicated in Alzheimer's... Along with that blue green algae that they're warning farmers about in our drought?

Oh my! I wasn't planning to eat any part of it, unless I forget... I'll take any kind of hardy palm I can get, even those that aren't really palms.

Why do you have a plant that you hate?

Cycads produce beautiful nuts.
Someone that I help has the mother plant... Planted in a spot where everyone gets poked in the eye when they try to get to the water spigot.
I have one of the pups.
Why wouldn't I have a plant I hated?
I used to hand-pull tragia urticifolia from a veggie garden that I helped out in....
And... You know, I still have some of that tragia growing in a pot....

Now I'm curious if most people like or dislike sagos...

I love Sagos, especially the huge ones. Lovey dubby There is one at Folly Beach, SC that has a tall trunk. I'm headed that way today to visit my parents. I'll see if I can get a photo of it. I have one in a pot that I need to get planted sometime soon. Whistling

Took a pic for you... Will try to get a pic of the mother plant later this wk.
Not sure how many years this guy has been setting in that pot...

Just haven't figured out where I can plant it and not regret it later... I did have one that I planted out in the sand... eventually it died. So... tough as they are... the Sandhills seem to be more than they can handle... Without help.

I had one but I thought the very cold winter a few years ago killed it. So I dug it up . My mom had some also and I did what someone suggested and just cut the limbs off. It almost immediately started growing again, soon they were huge and had pups all around them. They only thing I did not like about them were the spiny sharp leaves. I found them interesting to grow and was amazed at all the seeds they produced. I picked up a pile of oak leaves one year that had hundreds of Sago seeds in the pile, several months later they all started sprouting, I disposed of all of them because I had no place I really wanted to put any of them. In the right spot I think they are great, and in the wrong spot I am not a fan of them.

They're great plants, but certainly somewhat thorny. And also yes, all our plants are implicated in Alzheimer's disease. They sit there silently reminding us that we can't remember the last time we watered or fertilized them.

TY, Stone.

LOL, Elaine! I did find an article about there being an issue with eating the seeds, but it would have never occurred to me to even think of doing so. I hope I don't forget to not eat them.
