Thread OP

Hello all,

Been wanting to find a good plant identification resource for a while, found this forum and you folks seem friendly.

I apologize if this one is too easy, but with my lack of plant knowledge, 30 minutes of googling could not find a definitive answer.

This was a photo taken 2 weeks ago (July 2016) at about 9,000ft elevation in Yosemite National Park(eastern CA). These purple flowers were very common, and from google results it appears to be some kind of Lupine? Is there a subspecies that is endemic to the Sierras?

There's also this one in that area, Lupinus albifrons.

Sorry, the direct link won't work so you'd need to navigate to it from the page it goes to.

Thank you so much guys! For the compliment and for the quick ID. I'll leave this photo here, since people do enjoy nice scenery. My favorite of the day about an hr before. I'll definitely be back to ask for ID and to learn more for you all.

Such gorgeous images! Thumbs up I'm pretty sure those are native lupines in the first photo that you are trying to ID. Harder to tell from the second photo, although it is so very beautiful. Smiling

There are a few nice things about California. This is one of them. With all our downsides, we do have some beautiful scenery here and there.

I'm not sure which Lupine you have. They are funny plants with specific ones growing in specific areas and altiudes. There are at least 10 native to the high country (not all blue).

The pink flowers in your second photo are Purple Mountain Heather, Phyllodoce breweri, a California native that is endemic to California.

Nice photographs. Lovey dubby

In this case, it doesn't matter where toa514 lives because his photos are from Yosemite. I believe that is Cathedral Peak in the background of his second photo.
