Welcome! raczar.
It looks like it could be a Loquat but there isn't enough information to be sure.

I agree Probably loquat. But if you could take a better picture, close-up of the flowers that would help a lot. Or wait a few weeks and show us the fruit?

Hi raczar, Welcome!
I agree, the lovely tree in question is a Loquat (Rhaphiolepis bibas). In our former neighborhood, our backyard neighbor planted them all along the perimeter of the property between our yard and hers. They were so beautiful when in bloom in spring but they did pop up everywhere in the flower beds and in the lawn. Gray Catbirds and Squirrels love the fruit. I worked with a lady years ago who used to make jam from them but what a tedious job that must be since the fruits are small and mostly the large pit in the center. I think I came across a couple of seedlings in our new backyard last week but haven't had a chance to thoroughly investigate yet. If they are loquat I will dig them up and put them in a container for my sister and brother in law who'd like to have one.

Another vote for Loquat. They get to about 15 feet and spread about as wide. Very winter hardy in Texas anyway. Yummy fruit!

They get quite large here in Florida too and the fruit is good, just small.

Perhaps yours are a different variety than ours. The fruit on our tree are about half the size of a plumb and contain several seeds.

hmm ... I wonder if it is a different type? It's been 5 years since I've seen the fruit of those trees at our old house but I remember the pulpy fruit surrounding a single large, hard nut. It's visible in the fruit just to the left of the birds bill in this photo, the brownish looking nut inside where the bird has eaten the pulp away:

That does look different. Ours' fruit is also more oval than round.

Yes, quite a few listed in our database http://garden.org/plants/searc... but the only one I'm familiar with is E. japonica; that's the only one I've ever seen growing here on the Fla. east coast.

I'm afraid I don't know which we have, and the database is not complete enough to be very helpful.

I'm never sure how accurate these maps are but this one shows E. japonica in California, Florida and parts of Texas http://plants.usda.gov/core/pr...
