I bought this plant at Walmart this morning. I've never seen it before and the only ID says 'house plant'. I took off the glued pebbles and it has a partially exposed bulb. The leaves are mildly shiny and there are a couple of long creme colored 'flower? stalks'. Do I leave the bulbs partially exposed? Thanks.

It's a baby cardboard palm, Zamia furfuracea. I think the "flower stalks" are probably new leaflets growing out.

Thank you all for the ID's and the link! Thanks for the leaflet clarification too. I was wondering about that. Will be fun to see how it develops and matures.

Despite the similarity in appearance and botanical names, Zamia furfuracea (Cardboard Palm and native to Mexico and S. America) and Zamioculcus zamiifolia (ZZ Plant and native to East Africa) are not even in the same plant family. The former is a type of Cycad, like the Sago Palm, while the latter is in the Aroid family like Peace Lilies and Aglaonemas.

Oh, I knew that (hehe). It just reminds me of a ZZ Plant. That is an interesting fact though. nodding

A local business here had some Sago palms blooming a couple months ago. I regret not having taken pictures.
