So I've been tossing the seeds of most everything I've eaten into a pot for the past couple months and now I've got some plants taking off and I have no idea what they are. Can anyone help identify? Thanks!

Did you have Coleus seeds?

Your plants look like Physalis peruviana to me (delicious!):

Leaves are opposite, so not a Physalis. Stem is square, too. Looks like coleus, although I don't think anyone eats coleus....

I'm still working on things you would eat that would have seeds left over....

Coleus would definitely be one of them.

Where did you get the soil from?
I want to say some kind of sage or nettle.
Really doesnt look like produce.

No, I don't think Coleus seeds would have come from cooking dinner either, but it's possible that a packet of seeds was purchased and also added to the pot, a stretch but it looks like a Coleus. Look also at Perilla frutescens, (shiso,) an edible close relative of Coleus.

What part of the world are you in?

And please let us know if the wine seeds sprout!

It must be that I still cannot get over the Physalis plants I lost lately and their ghost lives in my stubborn mind

I am in Atlanta GA. Soil is generic potting soil from home depot.

Aha... that opens the possibility of other kinds of seeds being in the soil.

I loose many plants either to the lack of water or (consequently) to the rodents. I have almost given up replacing them .....

YW. That's frustrating! I once lived in a patch of very, very well fed bunnies & they're equally cute & HUNGRY. The more expensive the plant, apparently the better it tastes. In retrospect I'd say it was all worth it to have had a chance to hold baby bunnies a few times, as they emerged from holes in the yard, and that's what I really remember about all of that, but I sure had some mad moments at the time.
