Thread OP

I have a 95 year old Christmas Cactus left to me by an old lady. It is growing beautifully, new growth and better color, but all of a sudden the leaves are turning yellow at the end of the branches. The branches are several feet long and the plant is root bound. Any suggestions?

Oh my, that cactus sounds awesome! Any way you could upload a photo? Seeing the plant itself can help with advice on how to proceed.

Hi & welcome!

It's hard to say from a description if the yellow leaves at the tips are just new ones that look a little different because of their youth or a sign that there is an issue with the plants' health, hopefully the former.

I would get some cuttings going as insurance and pass most of them out to many friends, relatives, neighbors, then consider repotting the mama. If it ain't broke, the virtue in fixing it is debatable.

If its actually 95 years old, you have a goldmine. All the Christmas Cactus these days are so far removed from the originals that they are not the same plant anymore. Yes, hand out cuttings!

The oldest documented Christmas Cactus is about 150 years old. Smiling

I agree picture. Yes.
Have you moved it to different location?
Are you warering it the same ?
Sounds like a water.lite.or soil problem.
Till you get a diagnosis....
Definitely #1 get it re-potted. The ol gal needs some fresh dirt !!!
