My Flamin Fury PF 24 C peach tree had some fruit this year. It's 4 years old and had a small amount of fruit one other year. They were quite large and tasty too.

This was one of the larger ones, most of them weighed about 8 OZ.

I picked them a bit before they were ripe as the birds were beginning to find them. Today, I canned the ones that were ripe. Kept the rest to make a pie, and eat fresh as they ripen. Smiling

I should have used wide mouth jars, as they were large, and a few of them got a bit mangled putting them in the jar, but I had them already washed and sterilized, so I just squeezed them in. I was one jar short, so I did use one wide mouth and that worked much better. Next time I'll know better. If I remember that is. Whistling

the 24-C is reportedly the hardiest of the FF series. I was going to add 8ball and Lucky 13 but got too wrapped up in grafting my own trees this year. I can see from the photo you are working on making it an open center tree, this is the best pruning method for any peach tree. Great job and nice looking fruits. Thumbs up

Two years ago we had a couple of stretches of weather that was 22 below zero. It took out my Contender peach tree, but this one survived. All of the new growth was killed, but this tree survived it. The peaches are larger and sweeter then the Contender, but I miss that tree a lot. It was a producing fool until it died. I have to prune it to make it easy to pick, I'm not too good on high ladders anymore! Hilarious!

Maybe you could plant another one? That 22 below must not be normal?

It's not too abnormal but we had extended days like four days in a row of that low temp, and it happened twice during that winter, with many days at 20 below. Remember the polar vortex? It was that winter.

That is a shame it had to happen and do in your tree. Still you seem to be doing well with your peaches.

Well I said I'd post a picture of the peach pie when I made it, so here it is. I made it a few days ago, just didn't get around to posting the pics. It's long gone, and added a bit to my waist line. Hilarious!

Tom, I swear I could smell those ripe peaches last week, and that pie sure looks as good as it must have tasted. I tip my hat to you.

Your peach tree looks in perfect health, no leaf curl and pruned with an open centre. Is it on a semi dwarf root stock?
Spring is 3 days old downunder and my Japanese plums are in full bloom, nectarine tree is in half bloom, peaches in bud burst and double graft apricot just opening.

They sure did taste good, I'm down to my last 3 or 4. Paul, It won't be long and you will be harvesting your own I'm sure. Time sure does seem to fly by. It's on standard root stock, but it's not very old, I've had it 4 years. My apricots always bloom about 2 weeks before the peach tree. Although this tree is bred to be in a cold zone, so it blooms later. The blooms have taken 4 frosts this spring and still produced fine. I had to thin them some, as I didn't want it over producing when it's so young and breaking branches. Now I can look forward to picking the apples in a couple weeks. Smiling

I opened my first jar of peaches the other day, and oh my were they good. These peaches hold up nice for canning and have a wonderful flavor. I'd recommend them for anyone in a colder zone.
