I am getting a lot of solid white leaves this year. I think it could be because of all our heat and humidity.

@Kabby, That is the other thing that is surprising. With all the white leaves they are not scorching. I even put it on the sunny side of the patio. I usually grow it in shade. Maybe because it has been so humid. It has been a strange summer.

@gardengus and @crawgarden , thank you. It is one of my favorite Cannas.

I've tried twice to grow Stuttgart and both times the plants came up solid green. Not a vestige of white on 'em. Can you recall where you got your starts, Cinta?

Mine are still hanging around, years later with very tall nice plain foliage and the delicate soft orange flowers.

I purchased it probably 8 yrs ago from The Water garden one year I grew it in the pond. I do not think they sell cannas anymore. They were the only one that I could find Canna Pink Sunburst.

The first Stuttgart I purchased from Hirts came up all green. I gave it away because I buy cannas for the leaves the flowers come up so late in my climate it is not worth growing them for the flower.

I plant glads and coleus in the pots to have flowers and color with my cannas.

Cinta, your Stuttgart is truly beautiful!

Elaine, I was under the impression it is too warm and humid down here for Stuttgarts.

Ha, Cannas of all sorts love the heat and humidity here, but the Stuttgarts just don't grow with any variegation on the leaves. At least for me. I've had the plain ones growing wild in my garden for 10 years.

Interesting, friends around here who tried stuttgarts had them just melt on them, probably from the humidity. I know you can't give them too much water. I've never chanced them myself for that reason.

@crawgarden That is beautiful. I like the white in the leaves but I do not like the entire leaf white.

dyzzypyxxy, you are right they love the heat and humidity. We have been in the 90s and humidity in the 60s most of the summer. The only thing about Stuttgart is it likes shade usually. This year I put it in the sun but it is getting lots of water. The year I grew it in the pond it went so crazy I sent a lot of it to people because I did not need that many of one canna. I think there is about 4 in the pot this year.

Does Stuttgart produce viable seeds?

I do not think the seeds are viable or they would come true to the plant. You have to be careful who you even buy the ;plants because if there are a lot of pure green plants on the market. The first one I purchased was all green.

@dyzzypyxxy, That is where I tried last year and they were sold out all year. I do not think they have gotten enough to sell for two years now. I did end up replacing my intrigue from them last year.

Cinta I got my Pink Sunburst from Brian's Botanicals, also it's listed at Karchesky Canna. Both businesses have great cannas. Next year I think I'm going to order a brug and cannas from Karchesky and more EEs from Brian.
