Becky, there are two 'Frankly Scarlet' daylilies. The pics above don't match the registered 'Frankly Scarlet's AHS description so are presumably the unregistered one. See also this discussion:

Sue - Thank you for that information. Thumbs up

Does anyone own the "real" Frankly Scarlet? If so, would love to see photos and an evaluation of this cultivar.
Thank you!

It will be interesting to see if anyone has the 'Frankly Scarlet' that matches the AHS/NGA registration description. The problem we have now with the NGA database is that the info is split between the two, i.e. we have the AHS description for the registered one but the added info like the rust rating and photos most likely refer to the unregistered one.

Sooby is right, this one is the "imposter", same name, but not registered. This 'Frankly Scarlet' does well in my garden, 2-3 way branching, 10-15 buds, and rebloomed twice on nice, tall, strong scapes. It's a gorgeous shade of deep red and has a velvety look that I love. As for the original 'Frankly Scarlet', the description does not match what I have. Per the AHS website, it is "Red with a cream edge and yellow eyezone above a yellow to green throat." I would love to see if anyone has the true FS. The beauty and success of the imposter I fear may have completely replaced the original true registered plant. I hope people will realize that this is why it's so important to register all daylilies with AHS (daylilies.org).

I wasn't aware of this dual name, & of course, I have the fake one. It grows well & I like the color, but prefer larger flowers & this one will probably be leaving my garden. I think every photo I've ever seen of Frankly Scarlet has been just like mine. I hope someone has the real thing, I'm curious now.

I have the fake one as well. I love it, but I sure would like to know what the true name is. I suspect that this is a name that was put on it by a company that was selling it to a big box store, and the name stuck because so many people bought it. I got mine from a nursery that bought all of their daylily plants from the local daylily club.

The information I found in the AHS email robin archives is that 'Frankly Scarlet' the imposter is really 'Woodside Warrior'.

I had 'Frankly Scarlet' on my wish list at one time, but removed it because of the registration issue. So I guess now I can put 'Woodside Warrior' on my list. I had forgotten about that till it came up on the plant of the day and reminded me why I removed it, Thanks for the imposter name!

There's quite a difference in scape height, the All American (unregistered) imposter Frankly Scarlet is 18" to 30" scape height, 'Woodside Warrior' is registered at 44":

http://www.allamericandaylilie...

http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

Edited to add this link for Frankly Scarlet, scape height more realistically 28-30":
http://www.americandaylily.com...

Edited again to add if you look at the above URL it ends with PPAF implying a patent was applied for, but under what name I so far haven't discovered

Thanks Maurice! Mine is very tall, and everything else fits with the description, so I'm sure that is what I've got. It's nice to finally have the correct name for it! Hurray!

The throat on 'Woodside Warrior' looks more green to me than the one on Frankly Scarlet the imposter.

Not to add more confusion but one is a dip and one a tet according to registration. " Woodside" is an Apps name. Cenerton nursery does the Trophy Takers and Appsters. Could there be a different explanation
than imposter?

@Sooby - the throat of 'Woodside Warrior' does not appear to be as green in the photo on Olallie's web page.

It's described as yellow-green ('Woodside Warrior') on the registration, the Olallie picture looks to have a hint of green to me.

AHS registration with photo:

http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

Sharon, that's part of the problem, the original and registered 'Frankly Scarlet' is a tet, the imposter is apparently a dip. The sales descriptions for the imposter do not match the AHS registration details for 'Frankly Scarlet' which is a 6" flower "Color: red with a cream edge and yellow eyezone above a yellow to green throat". We call it an imposter because it's details are given as in the original registration, but basically it is another daylily with the same name.

Here is a list on Pinterest of some of the All American daylilies. I'm going through the list now to compare the names. Right away I knew that Lady Elizabeth wasn't correct. That name was registered in 1948 as "Yellow dark self"
