I have what to me looks like a tangled mess. I'm not very knowledgable compared to most of you though.

I have two roses very close to each other, the base of each is around 12 inches apart. One is a pink rose and the other looks like double delight but not as pretty.

Near the base of the pink one is this.

I carefully dug around it and they don't seem attached but I'm not sure if pulling it up would be wise. The roots are still in good shape but it never grows anything and the canes have holes bored into them.

If the roots appear in decent shape is there anyway I can maybe bring it back?

Here is the tangled mess I spoke of earlier.

Edit: Nevermind, I rinse some dirt off it and whatever bored into the canes made it all the way down. It's a goner.

Sorry to hear that Andrew. Was this part of the rose shown in the last picture or a different one?
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice!

It was a different one I believe. It wasn't attached to the other two bud unions.

Maybe it died from old age? Some of the climbing roses I inherited from my grandfather looked like that when they died and the stumps were hollow. I wonder if they could have been saved by a hard prune?
