Thread OP

Hello,

I'm in need of some assistance with identifying a plant which has recently bloomed on my property this past July. It is ~2 feet tall and attracts A LOT of bumble bees. This plant is near an entrance to my home and causes some discomfort to my dog and my wife D'Oh! ; but we both agree it is a pretty plant (if it is a plant?) and may consider transplanting it if it is in fact a plant.

Thank you!

Welcome! It looks like a Caryopteris to me but it's a long time since I've grown one (not hardy here).

It is definitely a plant. Whether or not it is a desirable plant may depend upon the level of discomfort it causes the wife and dog.

Certainly falls in line with the characteristics of a Caryopteris. My prior research lead me to Bee's Balm but the leaf and bud characteristics didn't fit those of my photo. I think I've found a positive ID!
Thank you!

Hi Kevin. Your plant has the common name of "Blue Beard". So called because of the blue fringe on the lip of the flower that you can see in your photos. Yours is a very nice example. Well grown and so many flowers! Well grown. Here's the link to the Bluebeard database. http://garden.org/plants/searc...
