Thread OP

I've had a magnificent begonia in the same spot for many months. All of a sudden, the thick beautiful plant has become all leggy, hanging off the pot. It receives great bright light and I'm careful with watering. Should I cut off all the leggy areas?
Help!
Thank you.

Legginess can only be remedied by pruning back. The causes of legginess include inadequate light, improper watering and age without regular pruning.

Is this a cane Begonia? If so, It was recommended to me to cut it in half from time to time. The cuttings make great "new" plants as the mother plant will bush out.

WillC & ShadyGreenThumb:
Thank you both so much for your prompt response. Looks like you both think pruning is my problem, so I will cut back my plant today. I'm unsure if this is a "cane" begonia, and quite frankly was unaware there were different kinds! I purchased my plant because I was struck by its beauty. Hopefully, I will be successful in starting new plants from the cuttings.

Thank you so much for your input.

I have a begonia that got very leggy and looked bad. I pruned it back by 2/3rds and then fed it well. In a short time, it's back to it's previous glory, blooming like crazy.

Will is a very smart guy- all of you are right, cut it back....BUT if it's growing leggy now, and you don't change anything, it's going to grow back leggy- no matter how many times you cut it..

It's leggy b/c there isn't enough sun/light. Period.
That can be seasonal, but if you're in N. America you are going into the darkest period of the year- and everything inside your house is full shade.

If there is a roof- that's full shade. Period. Full shade. Full stop.

No one- no matter how pale, has ever gotten a sun burn indoors, not even a tan.
Is that different than your plant evolved in? $#&* YEAH!

@Turbosaurus, you are answering a question from 2016.
Another member just bumped up this thread by asking a new question not related to the OP's plant so I moved it out to it's own thread.
