@porkpal - Horse herb you say? I love horse herb and it grows wild in my backyard. Has a pretty little flower and is no mow as well. Would love to have it in front as well but not up for clearing out the little bits of grass and the bigger bits of misc. weeds.
@UrbanWild - I strongly suggest, nay urge, that you go to the website for Lady Byrd Johnson Wildflower Center. Within it you can enter your state, desires such as ground cover and evergreen, etc, other things like shade or whatever, press enter and viola! you should get some suggestions. It's a pretty nifty site and apologies that I don't have the exact link for it.
2 more comments. For me, if the lawn/weeds are mowed, they're green and look fine.
Whatever you plant, do NOT plant purple wintercreeper!!! (Can send you a treemail if you want to know why.)
