Beautiful Begonias! I'm addicted to them too but have an awful time getting the cuttings to start!

I have a few begonias, but my favorite is the B. 'Honeysuckle'. This plant is a stock plant here at JBsPlants.

When these little flowers first open they are white and pink, maybe you can see that on the bottom of the picture. The blooms last a long time. A very nice plant for all begonia lovers.

This one is called B.'Orange Rubra'. The plant is not very pretty but the blooms are just beautiful.

Another favorite is B. 'Tea Rose'. This one seems to bloom constantly. The older plants get straggly but it is so easy to trim and when you snip off a stem, stick it in water, and zippo, you have another plant in a few weeks.

This one is a mystery. The Begonia Society calls it an "Angel Wing Cane Like Begonia" . When I first began to sell it I wanted to be sure what to tell my customers it was, so I ask the experts. They were a bit "iffy" and rightfully so, without seeing the actual plant but they said I would be safe calling it what they suggested. So. I have been selling it as that and so far no one has found another name for it. I never want to mislead anyone when it comes to starter plants, so I always double check the names. Sometimes the tags get switched in a large facility that sells in large quantities or they have no tags at all. Smiling This one had no tag at all.
Now it at least has some identity.

Here is a picture of this big girl. I keep cutting her back but she keeps on growing like a weed.
I have never seen a flower on her. They are not exactly great bloomers, but the foliage is beautiful. The burgundy under leaf is outstanding.

Unfortunately Lee, in order to ship plants from New Jersey to the other states I had to become Certified Nursery and what a pain that is

I am required to have my greenhouse inspected once a year. I have to pay for a license. If I want to ship outside the USA each shipment needs an additional inspection at an additional cost.

My hobby has grown into a small business and I try and keep the prices down because I only sell starter plants. It is cheaper for the buyer if the plants are smaller. Anything going West of the Mississippi River I am required to send bare root...that helps keep the postage down for those buyers, but I ship only priority. I wish I could ship to Canada but it would cost the buyer a fortune for one tiny plant. Logee's and Top Tropicals have a better chance to ship to Canada since they are not in NJ.

I have had many requests from Canada and some International Countries but I must decline. I am so sorry. I just shipped a plant to Georgia for a lady from Germany who will be visiting the USA and wants to pick it up and take it home. Good luck to her getting it thru customs. Sad

I agree with Lee, JB your begonia's are beautiful and I also look forward to learning from you. This is my first year having any luck with them, so far so good. My next worry will be over wintering them. Thanks for sharing your beauties JB.. By the way my 13 year old cats name is JB, named after one of my good friends Thumbs up

Christine, my old barn cat's name is Fat Cat. No longer a friend of who I named it after. Just kidding. I get naughty when I am tired.

I will be happy to share information in any way I can. Just give me a hollar. JB

Oh begonias. A dear friend gave me an angel wing start last fall. It made it through the winter sitting in the window, blooming the whole time. LOVED that color and the foliage. Put it out on the back porch in the shade, but I guess even our shade was too hot and it withered away in no time. Sad So now I picked up a couple of "dragon wing" begonias (red and pink) and also a "Gryphon" which looks similar to JB's "Angel Wing Cane Like" begonia. It came from the discount tables so is looking a little ratty but has those same burgundy shaded leaves.

ahhhhhhh begonias - I have one that I love dearly cuz I was raised on it. It's a "Cane like begonia - Angel Wing"
I've had some "confusion" with greenhouses - they want to sell me the tiny leafed ones, and I want the ones with large leaves - about the size of a lady's hand!
I was very lucky in that a fellow-gardener in Calgary had one, and gave me a slip. It's still small, but I am baby-ing it along. I want the cascades of pink flowers! It's a long-liver!! Thumbs up

As a houseplant, they need lots of light and water, I find. Whistling

Christine, I have read that certain varieties need more light and sunshine than others. You may want to look up the one you have and see if you are giving it the proper amount. The cane like
will not bloom if they do not have the proper amount of sunshine..............I read that someplace.

I need more sunlight for my cane begonia - my dad used to have one, and it grew huge - 7' tall - and had a copious amount of flower clusters........ Drooling

Can you believe, Angel Wing/Cane Begonias grow in the FULL SUN here? The sun is strong, but it never gets too hot!!! The flowers are also edible and look/taste delicious in salads or on a cake...... Big Grin
