For most of us (here in the USA, at least), Fall is in full swing! (And some are even experiencing cold Winter temps!) For me here in central Florida, it is Fall clean-up time. I decided to remove all my "older" seedlings that were in the 2 raised beds in my backyard. I will be planting them around my side yard instead. The raised beds have been amended and the registered daylily cultivars that I received this year will be transplanted into those raised beds. I will be finishing up the job tomorrow.

The hurricane damage to my yard actually prompted me to do a lot more in a shorter amount of time than I would have otherwise, so things are moving right along. Of course though, there is always more to do..... a gardener's work is NEVER done!

I have only 1 daylily blooming currently .... Thomas Tew. It has 1 more bud and that will probably be that last bloom for that cultivar this year.

I also have a new scape on Walter Kennedy! You can see it in the far upper right in the above photo. (That cultivar truly wows me. I love the red blooms!)

And here are 3 of 4 of the amended beds. (I will be finishing up the last bed tomorrow!) Unfortunately, when cleaning them out and amending them, I found lots of tree roots that had grown up into these raised beds. I have a large Oak tree in my backyard which is where I believe those roots came from. Sticking tongue out Angry Oh well ....

Looks great Becky! I wish mine looked that good. By the way, besides the rocks, what did you use for the edges of your raised beds?
Thanks,
Cynthia

Hi Becky! Now that I have all the medical stuff out of the way (how about this--hurricane, colonoscopy (plus endoscopy that was really bad--tummy was doing back flips). No problems found. Had teeth cleaned today. Great job.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ... now I can get to the good stuff! I was in the garden this morning moving, planting, cuddling little plants. This is the way I want it to be!

I'll be moving daylilies in the near future. I have not forgotten about the promises of free stuff (with postage paid). I'll contact each person. It can be this week, next week or ? What do you think Becky? Because the plant will be divided, your input is critical.

You are doing great. I can't plant my dl that close. I would never be able to divide them with the assurance that each clump would be what I thought it was. Good for you!!

Thanks everyone! I finished the last raised bed and am waiting for 1 more daylily shipment to finish the planting up. I'll post a photo of that last bed when it is completely done.

Cynthia - My raised bed edges are wall blocks or concrete pavers turned sideways and adhered together, then painted. Cheap, but long-lasting "frames" to those raised beds.

Arlene - As far as dividing daylilies, southern gardeners could divide and plant now, Northern gardeners might be challenged as some are already getting the cold Winter weather. I guess it depends on who and where you are sending daylilies. For me, this is perfect weather for transplanting daylilies.

I shouldn't plant mine so close. Far too close, but mine are so slow in growing that I am hoping they don't increase so much that it becomes a problem for at least a year or two. I grow most of mine in pine fines, so they are rather easy to dig and divide. When they do start increasing too much, I will divide and share them with gardeners here and with local family & friends. Thumbs up

I wasn't concerned so much about the weather. More concerned about storm cleanup, etc. I'll contact you immediately!

Thank you, Sharon! Thank You!

Most interesting .... I have space left in that last amended raised bed for 4 more plants. And as pure luck would have it, Two very generous members here offered to share a cultivar or more with me recently, so guess what .... 3 just arrived yesterday and 1 more is coming. I could not have planned that better if I had tried!!!! Hurray!

You beds are looking great Becky, Afraid I am way behind here. The good new is I'm retiring in Dec and may get caught up on some things next year. Am getting rid of all my yews in front of the house and having a deck built. Will have room for another bed but don't think it will have any daylilies. Am going to have to move a few daylilies to to make room for the deck stairs. Think they will go in a raised bed in back that is being redone.

Susan - Thank you. Congrats on future retirement. I envy you that opportunity. Enjoy every moment!

My last raised bed amended and all cultivars planted in it. The plants at the front of this bed are brand new, so that is why the foliage is short. I even have a scape with 9 buds on Walter Kennedy! Might show a bloom or two this coming weekend. :-)

Very nice looking bed! It is going to be gorgeous in bloom! Like the added height of the bird bath planter. It adds nice interest! A job well done! May your garden and home be blessed!

Very nice Becky!!!!

I did some fall clean up yesterday in 78 degree weather. I actually planted 3 seedlings that I still had in pots. Have never planted this late so I don't know if they will make it. Two of the seedlings were from Emerald Starburst.

You might try putting a brick or a block near your newly planted seedlings if they are still small to keep them from hooving up
out of the ground through the winter. If they come up out of the ground and get frozen you will probably lose them. I planted
a bunch a few years ago late in September and lost almost every one, because the soil didn't settle and the roots didn't have
time to anchor the plant before winter. Be sure to pack the soil tightly when planting this late.
