I was also wondering if simply not watering it would kill it, but know nothing about which parts of CA are the really dry ones.

Good one, Daisy I think it would help if Philip could tell us what kind of grass and what situation. Is it grass in a lawn, is it a weed grass invading a lawn, is it an area of native grass/pasture that is being re-purposed, is it grass in a flower bed, is it grass growing in perennial plants....

For the record: St. Augustine will dye when water is withheld for one and1/2 years. My neighbors lawn (that I worked on for two years) is now dead except for a few weeds. Hate it when neighbors that care, sell.
