I have a rather nasty case of this invasive weed that I've been fighting since we bought this property 3 years ago. I've nearly eradicated it in one large bed by digging each and every plant until I can find no more roots. I think anything new that came up this year was from seeds. I've just started on another smaller bed, which is far worse, and am wondering if there's another non-chemical method that might be easier on my back. Thanks for any help!

Ah - bishop's weed/gout weed. That one is tough to eradicate as it can resprout from the smallest bit of rhizome left behind.

I did win the war against Aegopodium/Bishop's Weed/Gout Weed but it did take a lot of digging and constant vigilance (and more digging):

I had thought about solarization but in these cooler climates, it would probably take all summer to do the trick. Lasagna method might have some promise.

Thanks so much for all your responses! I did end up digging for days on end until my back could take it no longer and, though it's no guarantee, I'm pretty sure I got 99% of it in this smaller bed (20'x8'). The biggest issue is that this bed has had peonies growing in it for, I'm told, 50+ years-the same peonies. I could not penetrate some of the peonies to get at the roots of the tiny monks weed plants growing on top of them. Winter has now set in so I'll need to wait until spring to see if I should just bulldoze the whole bed ... lol. Again, thanks for your responses. /Chrys
