Hello! I purchased an amaryllis last year and it bloomed in October. After the flowers died, I cut them down and have been watering/fertilizing it since then. What should my next step be to prepare it to bloom again?

Here, I let them get dry and go dormant for about 8 weeks and then start fertilizing again. Mine go outdoors during warmer weather and I usually bring them back in during Sept/Oct, letting them dry out and removing foliage. I don't "time" mine to bloom at Christmas but they generally bloom Jan/Feb when I can use a floral "boost".

I put my amaryllis in the garden this summer, not in pots; just in the ground. I brought them in last week and cut off the stems. Should I pot them before I put them in the dark? Should I take off that paper-like outer covering? One article indicated I should cut off the roots? Last year none of my bulbs bloomed. I've had them bloom other years. One article said to put them in the dark for 6 weeks, another said 8-10 ?? Thanks!!

Should I cut off the stems now? Or after putting them in the dark for 6-8 weeks?

I usually leave the stem on until it turns yellow, than take it off.

A katydid chewed the leaves off of mine a month or so ago. The bulbs seem to have survived and now I don't have to worry about what to do with the leaves.

You shouldn't have to repot the bulbs when you pull them out of the garden. You can repot when you want to get them growing again. Just wash off the dirt before letting them rest.

My plant's leaves are very green and appear very healthy- it feels dry which by the sounds of it is a good thing. So I should just keep the leaves as they are and prepare for the dormant period? I have a rubber band tying the leaves together also- should I remove that or leave it as it is? (You can't really see it well in my picture).

Thanks for all this awesome feedback!

I would just leave the leaves on and put it into dormancy, the leaves will yellow and drop off.
