Not long ago I noticed this odd sphere hanging on one of my creosote bushes (Larrea tridentata) in my Arizona desert yard. I'm familiar with a lot of odd things, but this is a first for me. Any ideas? It's actually rather pretty!

Probably not, but it sure looks a lot like my Tillandsia ball. This is man-made from little individual plants on a ball of moss, though. I"m pretty sure Tillies don't grow in dry climates.

If you are curious enough, you might want to pull it apart and see what's inside . . but that might kill it.

You could send the picture to your County Extension office and see if they know what it is.

Daniel, you're correct.Thank you! I've seen a lot of galls, but never one like this! Here is some info on it. It's just bizarre that a tiny insect could create something this beautiful!
