I was one of the first 300 contributors to the plant database! Native Plants and Wildflowers Birds Plumerias Hummingbirder Dog Lover
When I was given this I was told it was Mexican sunflower. Before I submit it to the database I need to know for sure. I started with 3 small plants...it self sows like crazy.


Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it.

I thought Mexican Sunflower was the common name for tithonia. Those can be either yellow or orange.

I think yours look more like heliopsis?

Looks like Helianthus angustifolius. Are the leaves stiff and course like sandpaper, edges tend to curl under?

yes, Jay...the leaves do feel like sandpaper. As to curling under..sorta on some

I hard to tell for such from the pictures but it sounds like Helianthus angustifolius.

That is where I submitted it and my pics were approved and added. Thanks so much for the help.

My place is awash in yellow this time of year, so I'll have a couple more needing IDs.
