Tomatoes Cozy in Low Tunnel

By SteveandJeannie
November 15, 2016

We took a cutting from what we observed to be a cold-tolerant summer 2015 tomato plant and put it fully rooted into a low tunnel in our zone 8b south-facing garden. It was still happy after some 28-degree nights in the beginning of February 2016.

Hi Steve and Jeannie,

I'm from South Georgia, too, and tomatoes have baffled me since I've been here. What a great idea! I am originally from the Augusta area, so when I try to grow tomatoes in what is normal time for me, they end up with blight and the temps are too hot to set fruit. I really appreciate this idea!

Thanks,
Pat Homer Hurray!

How Pat, so very sorry for my late response to your kind words. My 96 year young Dad who lives with us has had a terrible time with pneumonia before his 96th BD on Nov 18. I didn't follow through on these tomato plants until fruiting because my husband had ankle replacement surgery last March. Craziness, but I am working toward duplicating this process next month. I will add to this post as updates happen! Jeannie at musicalfarm.org
