On an earlier thread I mentioned that for the very first time, I had a spring planted seedling that sent up a scape very late in the season. A seedling that blooms the first year from seed is most unusual here in Iowa where hybridizers normally have to wait at least two seasons to see any blooms. When frost threatened, I cut the scape and put it in a vase on an east windowsill. Buds began to turn brown, and I was afraid I wouldn't get to see a bloom after all. I cut off all the remaining buds but one, shortened the scape, and hoped for the best. Above is my reward for my efforts.
