Hi all,

I was hoping someone might be able to help identify these Dendrobium NOIDs. They flowered in early spring and have now finished flowering.

My two plants (a gift from my mother-in-law):

Large:


Small (I assume this is the same cultivar as the above):



My mother-in-law's (several large plants):

Two neighbouring plants that appear to be the same cultivar:


Another plant - presumably different? Was in a different spot.


All the blooms were quite small - around 2cm across (or just under inch). Didn't measure them, so don't know exactly.

I would think different cultivars of Dendrobium kingianum. Surely they are strongly and nicely scented?

Are they scented?

What media are they planted in??? The two that are very 'red' (the leaves & psuedobulbs) might benefit from a dose of epsom salt...

I'm afraid I don't recall if they were scented or not...

The two I have are planted in Osmocote Orchid Mix (I repotted the large one after it had finished flowering). The others were probably in the same, though not certain - the media has likely long ago broken down. I'll pass the suggestion for epsom salts along to my mother-in-law. Thanks.

Regarding the scent - Waldor Orchids, a well established Orchid grower here in NJ would place huge plants of Den kings at the corners of his exhibits at Orchid Shows when in season. The beautiful, strong scent would really make you linger and come back for another look. Just wonderful!
