The grower that I've found stops shipping next week and restarts March 1st, once the danger of freezing in transit passes.

They currently have:

Christmas Cactus (The 2" start at $6.00 each and the 4" start @ $10.00 each.):
- 2-inch pots (56 varieities), are planted with 2-3 cuttings per pot to ensure a well branched multi-stemmed plant and average 4-6" tall (overall height) and are flowering size.
- 4-inch pots (42 varieties), planted with 3-6 cuttings per pot to ensure a well branched multi-stemmed plant and average 5-8" tall (overall height) and are flowering size.

Easter Cactus (The 2" start at $7.00 each and the 4" start @ $13.00 each.):
- 2-inch pots (5 varieities), are planted with 2-3 cuttings per pot to ensure a well branched multi-stemmed plant and average 4-6" tall (overall height) and are flowering size.
- 4-inch pots (15 varieties), planted with 3-6 cuttings per pot to ensure a well branched multi-stemmed plant and average 5-8" tall (overall height) and are flowering size.

My thought is to wait until February to start looking at what's available, place the order in mid-March and pick-up at the spring swap.

Thoughts?

I would need to compare that pricing to the pricing of the Etsy seller that I listed in the other thread. I think those were her normal prices (not 'group buy.' And of course it would depend on what varieties were available. If you would like me to contact that seller and ask if we chose what varieties we were interested in - what prices she might be able to offer us come spring I'm happy to do so.

Go for it! It never hurts to have options.

I figure I'll wait until the end of February to contact them again. That was, their offerings will have been updated. I figure that gives us plenty of time to put the order together, receive it and distribute as the spring swap.

Talking about CC's---how did the TRUE CC cuttings do that I gave to some people at a SWAP?
Was it Spring or Fall Swap?????

Gita, your asparagus fern is also happy. Lousy snap but trust me, it's happy.

Years and years ago, before I was a serious gardener--I had an Asparagus fern.
It was in a 10" HB. I would bring it in for the winter--and put it back out for the summer.

Did you know they put out little blooms? Thode blooms become bright red berry-like seeds
that sit on the fronds. In time--these red "berries" start drying up and shrivel.
That is when you can take them off and remove the small. dark "seed" inside the berries.

I would plant this seed and grow some new tiny, new plants which looked like a small blade of grass.

flowerchild, you may well be able to order from the same source, but I'm pretty sure Rick is putting any group purchase together for pickup at our local spring swap, as he mentioned... I don't think this is intended to be a participation-by-mail event.

You're right about shipping cost concerns -- often, group purchase savings are wiped out if plants have to be shipped twice (to say nothing of stress on plants).

@tx_flower_child , Jill is correct in that I was thinking more of a group buy for our in-person swap. However, you could set up a similar swap with your friends and neighbors in your area. I don't know how many takers you would have, but the chance to get some unique and well-identified plants at reasonable prices may prove to be a popular option.

Of course, you could then be setting yourself up as the 'local authority' on all things CC and EC!

@critterologist ( your 'handle' always makes me grin) and @RickM - y'all are right. I really wasn't paying that much attention when I posted. I've been reading so much about 'holiday' cactus the last few months, feeling guilty about inadvertently drowning a small but trusty tc I'd had for years, and finding a dearth of any tc or probably mislabeled cc that when I saw this thread I thought Bingo! Glad y'all caught me in my unthinking ways. Of course I'd already realized how shipping costs can really be a killer.

I have absolutely no desire to be a local authority on tc, cc, or ec, or pretty much anything. Plus, my Texas peeps in my general area (DFW) are into native perennials and that's a good thing.

Um, er, thanks, Rick. Glad you liked the cyclamen. It's not mine. I never have any luck with them. But when I walk into a nursery with shelves and shelves of cyclamens and in all their glorious colors, I want to take all of them home with me. So instead I took this picture at North Haven Gardens in Dallas.

Some of you remember that a member here @JB for many years raised tc cc and ec cuttings and sold them as JB's Plants. Not sure if she still does any of this but a number of hers were 'named' and quite lovely . @Gitagal may know of JB and Gita may have a plant or tow that she could share.

I love the 'new' ones but also have deep reverence for the old ones grown on and passed down to the next generation or two! An inheritance of long term caring.
