As far as I'm concerned, the only way to go is the 'Texas pecan cracker' style. There are native pecans here and some have really tough shells and that boxy end with the clippers works better than anything else, IMO. It will also shell out Brazil nuts which are also a tough nut to crack :). I've used just about everything shown by searching Google images and this is the one that works best, by far.
Still, if you are shelling a lot of hard shells it will be work. Unless you could find a commercial outfit that would crack them for you, it's just going to be tedious and your hand is likely to get tired. At one time there was a place near here where you could take your pecans and then go back and get them pre-cracked and ready to shell. No longer here, though - or least in the same location as it once was.
