Tom, If we keep getting rain in the amounts we've been getting recently, I'll consider very late-blooming irises. It's too soon to declare the CA drought over, but there's a lot of rain in the forecasts. Heat isn't a big problem where we live - 20 miles from the ocean, as the crow flies.

Late is better than early for our climate for TBs. The medians seem to take the weather well.

I have been putting a quite a few later ones in one bed. It's kind of nice to have one bed still blooming when the others are finished.

I think my latest ones bloom toward the end of June most years. However last year things were pretty mixed up with some of the later ones blooming earlier, and early ones blooming later. I think others mentioned that on here too.
