I have no idea how to tell the age of a Ponytail Palm (Beaucarnea recurvata) Mine are slow growing but possibly with the right care they would grow at a fast pace. Hopefully those with more knowledge of this plant will chime in with suggestions as to how to tell age.

I don't try to gauge the age of my Ponytail palm either. I am more concerned trying to keep it alive especially with the changing seasons.

By your description, you sure got a good specimen size there Gadsden, hope you can share a photo..we all love photos! Smiling

I think they probably grow at different rates depending upon where they are. Mine is nearly 12ft. tall and it has more than doubled in size since we moved into this house 9 years ago. It is growing very close to the trunk of a huge live oak tree, gets dappled shade and a lot of water in the hot, humid summers here plus a little sun and dry conditions through the fall/winter/spring dry season.
