This idea is not my own, but has been a fun activity in the rose forum that should work well with irises too. Pretty much every day of the year is some sort of holiday, and since there are plenty of iris names out there, there is likely a perfectly named iris for every holiday. For example, today is Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, so the iris of the day is 'Guadalupe'. Wish there was a better photo. Please feel free to play along, add others that also fit the theme of the day.

Seems like a fun winter thread Smiling

Ah, just found a site that says today is also Gingerbread House Day! There is a PCI called Gingerbread House with no photo in the database and I'm not seeing photos on other sites either.

This TB works nicely though, Gingerbread Castle

Thanks Mary Ann! I can't take credit because it was Zuzu'z idea in the rose forum, but I figured with the plethora of named irises out there we shouldn't have any trouble finding names that fit the holiday

Nice choices Tom! Thumbs up

Today is also Poinsettia Day, and I found an historic iris named Poinsettia but haven't found a photo of it yet.

My tag for Sinister Desire lost the S, so in my garden it now shows as Inister Desire. Really have to fix that!

What a great idea, Neal!

I'm going to jump start the 13th, which is Saint Lucy's Day in Scandinavia. (Is it wrong to choose this iris? Hilarious! )

Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Perfect choice Marilyn!

Great, Tom! I was curious if there would be any appropriate names for Violin Day.

Today is also National Cocoa Day..

Also found sources saying today commemorates the National Guard...
