Hello
Does anyone know the name of this lilium ?
i found this beauty in a mountanoeus area of northen Turkey last summer. The altitude was around 1500 m. İt was at the edge of a cliff. İ thought it was a wild speice. İt is 40-50cm tall and has a nice smell. Thanks in advance for any help

Absolutely, there are no wild lilies of Turkey that fit those images.

And there are no species in the world that might look like that, either. The lily is definitely a hybrid. You might find something similar being sold in your local flower shops, and I think that would be the closest to the correct name that you would be able to find.

This looks like a hybrid pot lily similar to Sonny Borneo or Sonny Bonaire. There is another dwarf pink pot lily that has the broad leaves shown in the picture, but the name escapes me right now. I grew it once. Very fragrant. But the lily in question is definitely a commercial product.

Thank you for replying. i found these lilies on a treep to Trabzon where i was after finding some ciliatum bulbs last summer. i had not expected to find these where i found ciliatum , candidum and monadelphum. i collect wild species and try to grow them in pots in my green house in İstanbul. Finding them in the wild made me think that they must be something i dont know. But still i agree that they look like some commercial hybrids . Thanks

bahadir, native flora is endangered in most places of the world. Instead of digging bulbs, why don't you better collect some seeds and grow them at home? This is a very rewarding activity for us gadeners - you will love your babies much more than the collected bulbs.

The reason i collected wild species is to save a few of them from thieves coming from Europe and USA . Lilium akkusianum is also endemic to my country. Now thanks (!) to those people .We cant see it anymore. The next time please keep your advice to yourself.

I can understand your frustration with people taking your country's native flora and risking its extinction in the wild, but that is no reason to be rude.

It is good to know that you are trying to conserve your native species, but collecting seed is also a good way to do this and does not risk transplant shock to the bulb (which in this case you seem to have moved whilst in flower).

My country, Chile, has a very attractive native flora (although no Liliums). I appreciate American and European (and Japanese, etc), plant collectors that come to my country from reputed institutions such as the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society of the UK), for these people make serious studies of our plants and thus
promote tourism to this end of the world.

If I collected plants/bulbs/trees/corms/etc. I would loose all rights to critizise others from doing so.

Anyway, I repeat I had no intention to offend you - just wanted to make you aware of what would happen if every gardener went digging wild plants.
