Looks almost like a toadlily or gentian

As far as the leaves go, looks like a toad lily or a gentian.
Photo taken in October. Chicago region/prairie.

To me it also looks like a commelina, or member of commelinaceae. no blooming flowers?

It does resemble Commelina; there are a few that grow in Illinois:

Thank you so much for all your help!. On looking at other examples of Commelina, I definitely believe that's what it is. There weren't any visible flowers, but the leaves are spot on. Likely C. communis.
