Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Tower Power')

This does not seem to be one of the more famous or popular Davisson intros but it is certainly a winner in my garden! Huge blooms, stellar plant habits and wonderful fragrance are all key features with this one. Its color is perfect for making darker purples and reds shine in the garden, but it is also extremely showy in its own right. It is a reluctant pod setter for me but has always managed to set a few each season. Pollen is extremely powerful and will set pods like crazy on other plants. I love this one!

I just planted “Tower Power” this spring so can’t truly evaluate it yet. However, I did note that even as a first-year plant it displayed very good tolerance to drought and heat. It is in a spot that dries out fairly quickly and receives more sun than it probably wants, and yet it never looked very stressed or wilted.

According to my records I tried setting three pods on it but they all aborted.

In my landscape the backdrop for this plant is a very large, green-leaved and red-flowering Weigela shrub, which I think is a perfect match for the bloom height and color. It is also close to the driveway where I am hopeful its fragrance will be noticeable to me and visitors.
