Hi Everyone,
I have just ordered two rooted plumeria plants From Drdawg . One is a Vera Cruz Rose with inflo and the other is a Celadine two tip.
I am a first time plumeria grower and was wondering what potting mix I should use that I would be able to pick up tonight and be ready to plant when they arrive tomorrow?
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome! , John! Nice choices on your plumeria picks from Ken! I love the Vera Cruz Rose!

Where are you going to be keeping your plants for the winter (Indoors, greenhouse, etc)? As far as needing quick and simple soil from the store, when I am in a hurry, or if I'm being lazy, I just pick up some cactus, palm, and citrus bag mix from HD or Lowes. Even some walmarts have it. It is fast draining, easy to use, and is sandy. I've never had a plumeria complain about it. It's my favorite "in-a-pinch" soil.

James,
Thank you!
Do you buy all three and mix or just any one of those?
I am so excited Ken was the only person I found that was selling any with an inflo so I'm hoping that I may actually see mine bloom....Fingers crossed!

James,
I forgot to mention that they will be wintering inside.
I wish I lived in a climate where I could grow them outdoors!
Ken said your weather in Corpus is perfect for them....so if two plumerias and their friend show up at your place don't open the door they won't leave!

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. Here is an example,

I hope it blooms for you quickly! I don't know many things that make me as happy as my plumeria blooms.

I do have a pretty nice climate for plumeria here on Padre Island. It could be slightly nicer (south Florida, Mexico, etc), but I don't complain too much Thumbs up

It's not gonna be heaven in a few days. We are supposed to get down into the 30s!! Sad Thumbs down Luckily, it'll only be a few days, and then we'll be back up into the high 70s.

The cold never sticks around down here. If it did, I'd be forced to move Whistling

What got you interested in plumeria? Did you travel somewhere and see them?

I originally traveled to Hawaii and fell in love with them, I brought 4 cuttings home and was waiting till I moved to plant them. When I finally opened them they had gone soft and mushy. I must have waited too long.
I had Vera Cruz Rose from Hawaii and it was one I definitely wanted to replace when I found Ken.

Hi John, Plumerias go dormant normally at this time of the year, if it were my plant, I will just let it rest, but you can always try to start growing it indoors, have to provide good warmth and lighting. If it drops leaves, don't worry, it is just going dormant. It will be much more active again in Spring.

I never much worried about shipping my plants in the winter. I just picked "windows-of-opportunity" to ship. Now with your worry and stress, you have me worried, John. I am too old to worry. Whistling

Hi John, oh that is just a heads up, even if it is rooted, that plant will acclimate in your growing area now. So if it does start dropping leaves, you know what is happening. Do not be tempted to overwater. Either it is in shock due to the transport, eventual repot and acclimating or finally plant is feeling it needs to go dormant, so be very careful in watering.

It is just interesting how temperature sensitive these plants are. Smiling
