And, thank you, Tom, for sending it to me.
Suzanne, one of my memory beds is specific to two police officers who were also Marines, and a lot of what I used was on hand, then shaped to fit a theme or story rather than searching out names directly reflective of law enforcement or fire fighting. Tom's generosity in sending me Pledge Allegiance and also Stars and Stripes Forever were perfect for that purpose.
As was Superhero.
Have these, as well:
I did look for plants that
were directly reflective of law enforcement--Police Stories was one. Even before Judy Schneider was selling Iris (The Shady Spot Iris), she went to a lot of trouble to locate and have this one delivered to me. Would be my honor to pay that thoughtfulness forward and send a rhizome of Police Stories to you later this year, just treemail me an address. This Iris was hybridized by Tom Burseen, who lives in Grand Prairie, so it is at home in Texas weather.
Are you considering adding non-plant items? I had a small metal sign custom made for that memory bed and the two officers. Had another sign made in memory of an Arlington officer to go in front of a Japanese Maple planted for her. The photograph below shows some generic signs I got through a mail order catalog several years back. A couple of streets over, the wife of a Garland officer has a small Norman Rockwell-type statue of a little boy in police uniform standing in her sidewalk bed. Just some ideas...
Hope you let us know how the bed develops and post photographs. Lots of photographs. I like photographs. The more, the better.
