Hi all- both of my princesses have sent out these long tendrils. My daughter also mentioned her hoya is doing the same thing. I'm wondering what the purpose is- perhaps it will flower later on the long stems? Or is it better to prune them off to promote more side growth?

Both of these plants are in the brightest room in the best spot possible (I moved them to photograph), but it had crossed my mind they were looking for more light. Our skies have been dark/cloudy lately, so maybe that is the case? Thoughts?

They are climbers, so it wants to latch on to something.

I agree, they like to climb and those long stems are normal for many hoya's.

I have put one of mine on a cube grid, so it can ramble about any which way it likes:



This one, Hoya kerrii variegata came with the round stake, so it just goes around and around, it is a slow grower, so it takes its sweet time. I added a stick before to help balance it, getting rather top heavy.

Thanks Gita Those cube grids helps a lot especially on our strong windy days like now, wind just passes through, so less resistance.

Does your hoya stay out all winter, T? I thought they needed more warmth. Love the look of your plant area outdoors. All that brick has to make it a warmer micro-climate.

Only this one, Hoya carnosa Krimson Queen, seems to tolerate our wet/cold winter conditions. The other one, Hoya kerrii variegata has to be indoors once temps overnight goes below 50F, will not take that much rain and cold. But I bring it out during summer, in shade, and blooms during our heat wave times.

Oh there is another one, Hoya shooting star, that one always indoors, indirect light and sitting on standing water. It drops the flowers when it feels hot.
