The leaves are not at all shiny. Could it be Piper methysticum? Shrug!
In what city/state/country is the plant growing?
Where did it come from? Thank You!

hello, thank you for your response Smiling I bought it at the Botanical Gardens. Thought they would know.. It was labeled piper nigrum. It is growing inside in my living room. stagnates during the winter but grows nicely during the summer months. Doesn't like direct light. The leaves are not shiny like the ones I looked on the net. But it has the same black and transparent drops on the underside of the leaves.
Maybe I should wait for flowers.. if there will be any Smiling

Which botanical garden did it come from?

What the the black and transparent drops on the underside of the leaves? Can you get a clear photo of the back of the leaves?

For comparison, your plant on left; Piper nigrum on the botanical garden's website. Do they look the same? To my eyes they look different, even the veins look different.

You said that your local garden store has more varieties. Would it be possible to take photos of the varieties offered and post the pictures here?

I wonder if it might be some type of Aristolochia?

I grow both Piper betle and Piper nigrum.

The above plant does not look like Piper nigrum, but it does look very much like Piper betle.

Maybe my plant is the one on the picture from botanical gardens.. maybe mine is a bit chlorotic, and might look different Smiling but it still looks different than the pictures on the internet. maybe it will bloom someday, and it will be easier ti ID.
I wrote that the garden centre has more varieties.. i ment it has more varieties of other plants. Our botanical gardens may look ok on the web, but in reality it is barely worth a visit. It is mostly volounteer work (because it is a part of the university for botanics, and it gets almost no funding), and nobody knows anything, for there are mostly uninterested students working there.. they sell some plants, but with no names on the pots, and if you ask, no one has a clue what grows in it Smiling
Thank you all for your help and research Smiling this is a wonderful bunch of plant lovers :D Thank You! Group hug

I don't see a problem with the above plant being Piper betle, Betel Pepper. An experienced grower recognized it. Guessing the plant is something else won't change the species.

I am sad that you are not pleased with your botanical garden. Volunteers do the best they can and they work for free.

Well, no matter what the identity of the plant, you probably need to address the issue of the infestation on the back of the leaves. It could be as simple as a type of mold or it could be insects. You can try washing away the spots with a spray of water. If you are able to take very close photos so we can clearly see what is on the leaves, we might be able to identify the culprit.

Good luck with your plant.
