I was repairing some termite damage in my hardwood floor that was treated some months back. I showed this picture to the termite guy that came out, and he said saw fly.. I don't think so.. My brother-in-law has a degree in entomology, and thinks it may be a beetle of some sort.. My friend, who is a retired biology teacher, thinks as I do, that it may be a termite king, or queen larva..

It looks rather like a snakefly, Raphidiidae family. There are some pictures here for comparison:

Thank you Sue! That's what it is. Now I need to find out why it was in a termite tunnel in my floor...

This, from Wikipedia:

The females typically have a long ovipositor, which they use to deposit their eggs into crevices in bark or rotting wood.

That may explain why it was in the termite trails.
Slava Ukraini!

The aboriginal peoples and many cultures throughout the world share a common respect for nature and the universe, and all of the life that it holds. We could learn much from them!

The eat other insects and mites so are beneficial. Apparently they particularly like aphids, but I have no idea whether they also eat termites. A quick Google search didn't turn up anything either way.
