Has anyone had any luck with Asarina (trailing snapdragon) seeds?

@mnmat, sorry I didn't see this post or would have responded sooner Meri. I've done them but they were slow to get started, seemed to really like the warmer weather best.

I found the same. I think they might do better sown inside under lights, except in hotter southern zones when they'd get an earlier start.

Yes, start them off indoors or under glass. Here in the UK I wouldn't plant them out before June. Once they get going they romp away but if you plant them out too early they sort of stall and never really get going again.

Thanks guys! I did a little research and found that they are slow to start (2-3 weeks) but, like Longk said, they run when they finally take off.

I've got them in peat pots on top of my refrigerator for the warmth. Once they're up I'll stick them under the lights.

No real tips, just treat the same as any annual and don't allow the to catch a chill. It won't kill them but sometimes they never really get going again.

I planted 2 3" peat pots with 4 seeds each on Feb 21 and only 1 seed sprouted on March 14th. Its been 34 days do you think I should re-sow?

mnmat I think you probably should resow. I started 2 different species of Asarina and a Maurandia (same as Lophospermum?) on February 18 and all were sprouted by March 6. I started mine under lights without any heat so maybe you should try that?

I reseeded last night. Only one came up and I planted 4 3" peat pots with several seeds in each pot.

@mnmat, how did they do for you? I sowed some seeds and they didn't germinate so I will try again under light.

I ended up with 2 plants which I planted on the South side of the house. One got no taller than 6" and the other got maybe 1 1/2 feet tall. No flowers at all. I'll try them again this year but in a different spot.

I sowed the asarina 'blue sky' and two tiny seedlings. Started then on wet paper towel.

Have asarina 'bridal veil' and maurandella/twining snapdragon seeds on wet paper towel also; but nothing thus far.
